After beating Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day, Liverpool take on Aston Villa hoping to extend their winning run.

Aston Villa will be without suspended winger Ashley Young.

Young has started all 19 of Villa's league matches to date this season but will have to serve a one-match ban after collecting his fifth yellow card of the campaign against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill has hinted he may make changes, particularly with Liverpool having an extra 24 hours to recover following their Boxing Day victory over Wolves.

The likes of John Carew, Nigel Reo-Coker, Habib Beye, James Collins, Steve Sidwell and Fabian Delph will come into the equation for possible starts against Rafael Benitez's side.

Rafael Benitez must decide whether to continue with Alberto Aquilani in midfield.

The Italian made his first Barclays Premier League start in Saturday's 2-0 win at Wolves but came off late in the match with a minor hamstring problem.

Dirk Kuyt can expect a return to the starting line-up. The Dutchman was rested by Benitez against Wolves, having figured in more matches this season than any of his colleagues apart from Yossi Benayoun who has also now played in 26 Liverpool matches this term.

But for a difficult match at Villa Park, where Liverpool dare not lose if they want to stay in the hunt for a Champions League spot, Kuyt's running and effort will be vital. Liverpool will be without the suspended Javier Mascherano.
