Amy Mickelson’s diagnosis of breast cancer was announced to the public on May 20, 2009, along with an announcement that Phil Mickelson would suspend his golf play while she undergoes treatment. According to ESPN, she will have further testing before treatment is started and she could undergo major surgery as soon as June of 2009.


Phil and Amy Mickelson founded Start Smart in 2005, which benefits San Diego County elementary schoolchildren. They also founded the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation that same year, which assists elementary schools with math and science resources and funding.
