Spaniards dominated possession early, and David Villa were denied by Manuel Neuer in the sixth minute when a nice through ball from teammate Pedro found a new team of Barcelona for a rapid loss of purpose.

Then, in the 73rd minute, Germany's defending let them down on a corner kick. Xavi swung the ball in from the left side, and Puyol came forward unmarked to powerfully head past Neuer with no one marking him.

The game will ensure a new World Cup winner as neither side have previously won the tournament.
