Jailed gay couple Pardoned by Malawi president

Malawi treats gay as indecency and unnatural act in their country. Homosexuality is being outlawed and treated as criminal act in more than 30 nations in the continent including MalawiLast December after celebrating their traditional engagement ceremony the couple were arrested they were tried and found guilty of sodomy and indecency this month as they being found gay.
Malawi president Bingu wa Mutharika announced on Saturday (29 May) the pardon of the jailed gay couple who were sentenced to 14 years earlier this month.
The decision was made at a press briefing at the state house after Mutharika met with visiting UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday.
The judge told them: “I will give you a scaring sentence so that the public will be protected from people like you, so that we are not tempted to emulate this horrendous example.”
“These boys committed a crime against our culture, our religion and our laws: however, as the head of state I hereby pardon them and therefore ask for their immediate release with no conditions,” President Bingu wa Mutharika said after a meeting with Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations secretary-general.
