Earthquake in Maryland: DC Earth Quake Reports - Highest on Rctor Scale

Earthquake in Maryland: On Friday a 3.6 magnitude earthquake centered in Montgomery County at 5:04 a.m. according to The U.S. Geological Survey. USGS reported that the epicenter was in Gaithersburg just 20 miles northwest of Washington and Its depth was 3.1 miles.

Since 1974 this is the first registering above 3.0 on the Richter scale at this area. The Officials have yet to report in any damage however many residents did call 911 to report the incident.

About an hour after the quake, Vaughan said more than 5,500 people had reported feeling that through Maryland, near Washington, and in states like West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware.

The last earthquake in Maryland occurred on October 8, 2007, according to the USGS website. It was a 1.7-magnitude quake about 5 miles northwest of Baltimore.
